Powersteering

Servicing

To avoid major repair costs, your vehicle’s power steering should be serviced every 12 months or 20,000 klm’s. This will ensure the power steering operates efficiently and avoid any unnecessary wear. If you are unsure of when your power steering was last serviced or think there might be a problem, please give us a call to find out the best approach.

Our service includes oil change and adjustments where required.

Overhauls

Most components of the power steering system can be overhauled or remanufactured back to manufacturer’s specifications. Overhauls include:

1. Power steering pumps

  • All gaskets seals and o-rings are replaced
  • Bearings / bushes are replaced to ensure correct rotation inline
  • All rotors and vanes etc are checked for wear and replaced as necessary
  • All clearances are set to original specifications

2. Power steering boxes

  • All gaskets seals and o-rings are replaced
  • Bearings / bushings are replaced to ensure correct rotation inline
  • Wormshaft and pitman shaft are checked for wear and damage and replaced or refurbished if required
  • All clearances are set to original specifications

3. Power steering racks

  • All gaskets seal and o-rings are replaced (including rack boots)
  • Bearings / bushings are replaced so that shafts rotate and move smoothly
  • Rack ends / tie rods are replaced to eliminate variation in wheel toe in/out
  • All tie rod ends are checked for movement on installation
  • The vehicle will require a wheel alignment after a rack replacement

Exchange

All exchange power steering components carry all of the same specifications as the overhauled unit but the biggest advantage of the exchange one is the time factor in most cases your vehicle can be back on the road the same day!
